Can I Stamp On This?

Translucent Vellum

Translucent Vellums are a wonderful and very translucent (see through) type of thin cardstock.  They do not react well to moisture and will buckle very easily if overheated during heat embossing.  Vellums work beautifully to stamp on, for layering, or to use in your computer printer for printing.  There are certain types of vellums made specifically for use with a computer printer.  They have a slight coating on their surface, so the drying time is extended.  The translucent nature of vellums make them particularly elegant when layering and are often used for pergamano and dry embossing projects.  You can stamp on one side, then color the image from the back with markers for gentle shading effects, or you can stamp and color on the same side.  If the vellum is thin enough, you can also use it effectively with origami projects. Vellum can also be used to create beautiful envelopes.  The weight of vellum is indicated by pound (i.e. - #) also. The higher the pound, the heavier the vellum. The average weight of the most commonly used vellum runs about 30# or so.

Products which work well with vellums are, but not limited to:  oil pastels and oil pencils, markers (permanent and dye based), Radiant Pearls (note here that Radiant Pearls will only air dry on the Glama brand of vellums), dye inks will NOT air dry on vellums so heat embossing is advised when using both pigment and dye inks, Brilliance and Ranger Archival inks WILL air dry on vellums, as will most other permanent inks.

Techniques which work well with vellums are, but not limited to:  dry embossing, pergamano, heat embossing (if done carefully), sponging, stippling, Direct to Paper, eyelets are stunning when used to adhere vellums to cards.
